5.5 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits 31 miles North East of Eureka Ca.
I have no word of injuries or damage but we were shook up by the 5.5 magnitude earthquake that struck at 1:07 pm Pacific time. It was about 18 miles east of Trinidad.
EARTHQUAKE REPORT EUREKA CA 126 PM PST MON FEB 13 2012
AN EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED WITH A MAGNITUDE SUCH THAT A TSUNAMI WILL NOT BE GENERATED.
AN EARTHQUAKE HAS BEEN FELT MODERATELY BY MANY PEOPLE IN NORTH WESTERN CALIFORNIA. SLIGHT DAMAGE HAS BEEN REPORTED. DAMAGE REPORTS SO FAR...DISHES RATTLED OR BROKEN.
THE WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER HAS INDICATED THAT AN EARTHQUAKE MAGNITUDE 5.4 ON THE RICHTER SCALE WAS CENTERED AT 30 MILES NE OF EUREKA, CA.
REPEAT...A TSUNAMI WILL NOT BE GENERATED BY THIS EVENT.
ANY FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE WHEN IT IS RECEIVED FROM THE WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER.
The North Coast Journal reports that Caltrans had to move about 4 yards of rocks that blocked all lanes on Highway 96. The rock slide was caused by the quake but was quickly moved and traffic was back to normal in a matter of minutes.
at peace with crazy, Your husband was practically on top of the epicenter. Glad everyone is ok. About those tornados, they are super rare in California but I hear earthquakes are becoming more common in the midwest. Welcome to California.

our first earthquake! we just moved here from nebraska (tornados). eek! we sure felt it in mckinleyville & my husband definitely did at work in Hoopa!
